there's an old highway that commutes over the top of the remarkables, the nevis valley. this is not a highway made of tarmac, there are rivers to cross and not a petrol station in sight for 88km. you will see the old hotels used in the days of horse and carriage, even some still working farms - it is beyond remarkable. pun intended. 

we found ourselves in the clouds on the descent, we had to get out.
